Tolga Karacelik - Gise Memuru AKA Toll Booth (2010)

The first feature film written and directed by Tolga Karaçelik, better known for his award-winning short films such as Rapunzel, Toll Booth tells a story of miscommunication, isolation and desperate alienation via a conflict between a father and his son. Confined to his own world of dreams, introvert, and reticent, Kenan is a toll booth attendant, who lives with his ailing father. Serif Gören - Yol AKA The Road (1982)

Yol is a 1982 Turkish film. The screenplay was written by Yılmaz Güney, and it was directed by his assistant Şerif Gören, who strictly followed Güney's instructions, as Güney was in prison at the time. Later, when Güney escaped from prison, he took the negatives of the film and edited it in Switzerland.The film is a portrait of Turkey in the aftermath of the 1980 Turkish coup d'état: its people and its authorities are shown via the stories of five prisoners given a week's home leave. The film has caused much controversy in Turkey, and was banned until 2000s due Yılmaz Güneys involment more than its content.

Cemal San - Ali'nin sekiz günü AKA Eight Days in the Life of Ali (2009)

Nuri Bilge Ceylan - Uzak AKA Distant (2002)

Uzak tells the story of Yusuf (Mehmet Emin Toprak), a young factory worker who loses his job and travels to Istanbul  to stay with his relative Mahmut (Muzaffer Özdemir) while looking for a job. 

Uzak won 17 awards and 2 nominations, including the Grand Prix and Prix d'interprétation masculine, shared by two actors of the film at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.

Yilmaz Güney - Umutsuzlar AKA The Hopeless Ones (1971)

Fırat, his mother and his younger sister grew up in poverty while his father died in prison. He supported the family by selling sesame rolls on the street. Later he founded a gang with his friends and became famous as the feared leader and gunman of a Mafia group. (In the film you never see the group´s criminal activities, in fact they act as a sort of Robin Hood organization, with the people appealing to the group which sits in a large room in their villa like in a sort of court, with Fırat presiding and passing judgment.)

Like all his group members, Fırat has remained a bachelor, he had never even looked at a woman before he met Çiğdem, a classical dancer from a bourgeois family. They have a passionate relationship, then Çiğdem leaves him, because she cannot stand his Mafia background and his gun-craziness.

The film starts after more than a year has passed, but neither Fırat nor Çiğdem are able to forget each other, they remain passionately in love. They resume the relationship which does not please the gang members. They appeal to Fırat to put an end to it, Fırat refuses and in return asks them if they had never been in love, if they had never longed for love, family life and children.

Fırat´s sister is going to be married, Çiğdem visits his mother and sister. They had originally planned a double wedding, but they both know why Çiğdem cannot marry Fırat, they agree with Çiğdem, but are sad about it. Still the wedding takes place, but it´s a sad affair.

Meanwhile, with the relationship being on and off several times, Fırat is attacked by members of a rival Mafia gang while being out alone in a phone booth talking to Çığdem. The talk about Fırat being in love had already undermined the group´s reputation, and they agree with the rival gang to have Fırat killed.

Yilmaz Güney - Aç kurtlar AKA The Hungry Wolves (1969)

Serçe Mehmet had been a teacher in a village near Siirt in South-East Anatolia. Bandits had kidnapped his wife, after seven months they returned her dead body, she had committed suicide out of shame. Mehmet then decided to leave the village and to devote the rest of his life to hunting bandits down. Here the film sets in.

In another village, bandits force the villagers to pay them large sums of money, threatening the villagers by killing some of the men and abducting some of the women. Serçe Mehmet arrives, kills several of the bandits, giving himself the name "Azrail". Everybody is afraid of him because of his reputation as a merciless killer.

He frees however a woman who had just been raped. Mehmet takes her back to the village, but her husband, also a teacher, doesn´t want to have her back. The woman implores Mehmet to shoot her, he answers that he will not waste a bullet on her if she doesn´t pay for it first. Since she has no money she collapses in the snow, then she follows Mehmet at a distance. Mehmet helps her after all and even convinces the husband to take her back. (Another woman is raped by the bandits, her husband is forced to sit in the next room, after the bandits have left, he hands her a revolver with which she shoots herself.)

Serçe Mehmet finishes off the bandits one after another and regularly visits the village inn bringing in their heads and crossing off their names from a wanted-list. In a final show-down in the mountains deep in snow, he awaits them, they surround him but are no match for him. (Their dead bodies are eaten by wolves in the night and discovered by the surviving bandits in the morning.) Finally a commando of gendarmes arrive and surround the shed Mehmet has hidden himself in. He pours himself a last glass of Rakı and prepares himself to die in the flames, as the gendarmes throw petrol over the shed. The flames also consume the patriotic, progress-praising posters on the walls.

Zagor Kara Korsanin Hazineleri AKA Zagor The Black Pirate's Treasure (1971)

 

Zagor is an Italian fumetto hero created by editor and writer Sergio Bonelli (pseudonym Guido Nolitta) and artist Gallieno Ferri. Zagor was first published In Italy by Sergio Bonelli Editore in 1961. It's the most popular comic book since 1960's in Turkey. There are two unofficial Turkish Zagor adaptations. In this one Zagor with his sidekick Chico fand Digging Bill fights againist the evil Black Pirate. This movie was lost so many years until the last October. This's a remastered version by Horizon films.

Tarkan Viking kani aka Tarkan vs. the Vikings (1971)

 

Kartal Tibet is… Tarkan! A mighty barbarian warrior guy who runs around with his dog, Kurt, saving pretty women from danger. He’s currently in the employ of the daughter of an important political person who runs afoul of some bloodthirsty Turkish Vikings who worship a bizarre Lovecraftian man-eating octopus. Why do they want the girl? Why, to sacrifice her to their god, of course! The Vikings, lead by a guy with the most amazing moustache ever, land their Viking ship outside of the castle where she lives, and soon have killed off all of her men, with only Tarkan left breathing, laying unconscious and presumed dead on the floor of the courtyard after a bloody battle ensues. Tarkan isn’t going out like that, however and once he gets his strength back, he and Kurt track down the Turkish Vikings and set out to save the pretty damsel and save her from certain doom at the hands of the half inflated eight-legged demigod.
