Henry Barakat - Doa al karawan AKA The Nightingale's Prayer (1959)

One of the master pieces of the Egyptian Cinema in the 20th century based on the novel by the great Egyptian writer Taha Hussein (1889-1973). The novel itself is regarded as a masterpiece of the Arab literature.

The classic conflict between desire and obligation set deep in the countryside and manifests itself through a love story between Amna the maid and the engineer she works for, and who she plans to take revenge on for seducing her late sister and destroying the honor of her whole family.

The film includes many of Egypt’s leading people in the field, such as director Henri Barakat. The script was written by the famous journalist and writer Youssef Gohar, director of photography Wahid Farid, set desginer Maher Abdel Nour, editor Mohamed Abas, and sound engineer Krikour. The film stars the great Faten Hamama, or the Lady of the Arab Silver Screen as she is called, in her greatest role, Ahmed Mazhar in one of his most memorable roles and Amina Rizk, Zahret Al Ola, Abdel Alim Khattab. The commentator’s voice is actually Taha Hussein’s.
