No theatregoer in this city can henceforth justly complain that "The Girl on the Via Flaminia" has been deliberately withheld from his view. Earlier this week, a stage version of the novel by Alfred Hayes was made available under the original title at the Circle in the Square and last night a motion picture version under the title of "Act of Love" was put on view at the Astor Theatre. The chances to see it are good.Not having caught the stage version or, for that matter, read the book, this reviewer of the picture must hold his opinion to that alone. And the verdict, without preconditioning or preconceptions to bias or confuse, is that the film is a fine and strongly moving but eventually irksome tracing of a plain romance.
